The Word of God for the world of man

this session, is...

Looking at the gifts of the Holy Spirit and their use in Scripture (not just the high profile one's)

In the New Testament can be found many varied gifts of the Holy Spirit. Lists can be found in I Corinthians 12, Romans 12 and Ephesians 4. The gifts range from speaking in tongues and healing, through words of knowledge to discernment, serving, preaching, teaching etc etc.

If we hold that the Bible is true, them we must accept that the Holy Spirit is for us today, all that He was for the people of Jesus' day. The Bible calls us to know God - to 'know' Him means to experience everything about Him. If we do not experience Him to the full, how can we say that Jesus is our friend, brother, King and Lord?

If we hold that this part of the teaching of the Bible is wrong or outdated or not for us today, then how do we know, with any certainty that the rest of the Bible is true and relevant today? For example, if we hold tha Paul really did mean that the Law is no longer in effect, then the extension of that logic is that Jesus' grace is of no use, either, since His grace is poured out on us for those timewe break God's Law? Therefore, no Law mean there was no reason for Jesus to die and there is no grace, since we cannot break Laws that do not exist
