The 2nd Ryde Girl's Brigade has been based in Haylands for over 60 years, It used to meet here at Ryde United Reformed Church but was closed down on 1st April 2006 by the National Director as we had no staff to run the Company properly. We hope we shall soon have people training as Officers and helpers so the Company can be restarted. The large site we have is regularly used by GB, BB and Scout groups, from the mainland, for 'camps' or sleepovers mostly during summer months, although we can accept bookings outside of term time at other times of the year as well. We can accommodate either small or large groups (boys and/or girls) for a stay that can be infinitely variable in length - subject only to any other bookings we may have, and your leaders' time and patience! At the time of writing (2008) the individual fee is just £3 per person per day. Each group booked in has the use of almost the whole site (the exception being the 'sanctuary' end of the Church, although that is available for worship activities) for the duration of their stay with us. We are situated just a mile from Ryde town and there are local stores that can be used to replenish stocks from time to time. We have on-site parking and large gardens for games etc. Our property is OSTED approved and fire and electrical testing is carried out regularly and we have just refurbished the kitchen and the ground floor of the house - the upper floor will be tackled this winter (2008/9). Our Pilots Company meets each Friday evening from 7.00 to 8.30pm in the big house on the church site during school term, where great fun is had by all. The Ark meets every 3rd Sunday morning at 10.30am (more frequestly if the children and young people are available) and a creche is usually available for under 3's The Ark is the place to be on a Sunday morning - there is a whole variety of things you can do in the Ark! Note to Parents: Ryde United Reformed Church takes it work with children very seriously. We have an extensive Good Practice Guide which is regularly updated and which is available for parents to look at if they wish (just ask one of the staff). All church staff who have positions of authority with children have been vetted under the provisions of the Criminal Records Bureau and each holds, or is in the process of obtaining, a clean certificate from the CRB. Our Staff are a member of either this, or another, local Church. Non-members are not used to teach/work with children except under the authority of properly recognised staff of this Church, or some other mainstream denomination or with the Girls Brigade if they are recognised Officers.
